Goran

Goran is a radiation technologist. He grew up in a family of physicians. His father was a respectable oncologist in Osijek, and his mother was a paediatrician. They both worked at the Osijek General Hospital. Save for the memories, two close friends and the tragedy of his father’s grave, there is nothing that connects Goran to Osijek anymore.

One day my brother told me our dad was missing. We searched for him for a week, called a bunch of people trying to find out what happened. And then one day, my brother came to me and said: Goran, we no longer have a dad. I think it was Saturday. Dad was supposed to become Head of Oncology on Monday, as the oldest radiologist. The police informed us they had found his body in Drava, that he was shot, and they require positive identification. … And that’s the moment when you realise you’ve lost an important “bonus” in your life. That you’re left with a single parent and if they die, you no longer have anyone.
