“We planned the wedding for 12 October 1991, but we changed the date to Friday, 11 October, because the shooting in Osijek was heaviest on Saturdays, so we wanted to avoid larger casualties and got married that Friday. The wedding preparations were insane. When we went shoe-shopping, a downtown sniper was shooting at us. Really, when I think about it, I say to myself: ‘What were we thinking?’ If my daughter told me now that she wanted to get married in such circumstances, I would say: ‘Are you out of your mind, love?!’ But we, we did it.”
